I remember when I first started traveling, the idea of visiting Rome and Vatican City thrilled me, never one day hoping that I would lose count of the number of times I had been there, albeit in various ways.

Pantheon, Rome
The amazing Colosseum featured deserves to be the most well known monument but my favorite is the Pantheon
Visiting Rome, inside the Pantheon, Rome
Visiting Rome also involves entering places Here I am inside the Pantheon which I joke about the play of light from the opening I also love it so much for the thought that it was built by Emperor Hadrian one of the historical figures I most admire

Of all the cities I have toured, I consider it in the top 3 of capitals along with New York and London as the amount and diversity of experiences one can have; very little green compared to the other 2, but lots of memorable food.

Statues of Rome
Rome is full of statues and those on top of the churches at sunset take on even more human if a little creepy appearances

Ticking off the super list

With my most compatible as well as reliable travel companion we did an intense and thorough week of just visiting Rome in July 2009. In the planning stage I astounded (and frightened) her with a list tending toward infinity of things to do. We ticked them all off and there would be more to come.

Triton Fountain in Rome
With Cecilia we also decided to do a kind of sub route in the itinerary looking for the most curious fountains in the city here we are in front of the Triton fountain one of Berninis many masterpieces

On the hunt for the right magnet

I returned there other times for short periods and special occasions; one was for a Cure concert with friends. Due to work requirements I could not do the 2/3 days together with them who took the opportunity to see the city. I joined them only at the last minute and directly at the Hippodrome (where they were playing).

I was ashamed to tell him that I had been in Rome for a while, but I had lost half an afternoon to enter Vatican territory and buy at the first kiosk a magnet. Since a few months I had decided to collect them by giving myself the rule that I had to have only 1 per country I had been to and that I could only be the one to buy it. I got it right on Via della Conciliazione which looks beautiful now, but there is more behind it.

Via della Conciliazione, Rome
St Peters seen from the beginning of Via della Conciliazione beautiful but it makes one wonder that to create it they destroyed a neighborhood and displaced all the inhabitants
