The highlight of our trip to Andalusia was in the second part, when we went to Malaga, and especially Cordoba, Granada, and Seville. I thought it was a crime that I had not yet been to such a beautiful area, especially because of the wonderful mix of Arab and European architecture.

Cordoba

The present cathedral of Cordoba is the ancient mosque and it is a true wonder

The interior looks like a forest with all the columns thickly present

Accustomed to going off on my own and thus doing what I pleased, a certain impatience of mine began to mount. As mentioned I managed to see everything I had set out to do, but the tendency not to plan and to throw a lot into my partner’s case began to clash with my being completely different. The climax came on the occasion of the evening of December 31, which in Spain almost everyone celebrates at home.

Seville

Travel to Andalusia, Seville
Even in Seville there are many palaces built by the Arabs and then recycled sometimes remodeled by Christians

Asking around and a bit as I already knew, I got the idea that it would be good to book something, or at least buy something to keep ourselves in the apartment we had just outside the center of Seville. There was no way, and I gave in to his no, come on, let’s go around and see.

Plaza de Espana, Seville
Both here and in evidence is the beautiful Plaza de Espana

The few places that were closed were full and would not accept anyone without a reservation. When I get hungry and see no food possibilities on the horizon, I get nervous. By standing in a long line we found a place to get take-out pizzas bordering on inedible and hot water; at that point, and it was barely 11 p.m., I decided that for me the year would end there and to go to sleep.

The tower of the Giralda, Seville
The Giralda tower next to the cathedral was once a minaret

Despite that ending, partly due to the fact that we returned to Italy the next day and she came back to me after her tour of European friends, we remained on good terms; so much so that before she returned to Australia, she asked me to marry her!

In this curious painting in the Cathedral the bearded man breastfeeding would instead be a woman who really lived in the 1600s named Magdalena Ventura

Granada, not to be missed on a trip to Andalusia

Although the last stop on the Andalusia trip was in Seville, I close with Granada, which I found magical.

Alhambra, Granada
The top of the trip to Andalusia is Granada and in particular the Alhambra

Inside the ancient fortress and palace are fairy tale views
