I could have said that my singles cruise victory was that the prettiest girl in the group agreed to visit me the following week.

I actually went blank, I had expectations, but evidently there was a misunderstanding. Or maybe it was because I couldn’t have won twice.

The center of Split featured then Diocletians palace was the stop I enjoyed the most

The lottery

In fact, as we were standing in line to disembark in Venice and as I was going all in with the beautiful Roman, they announced from the ship’s loudspeaker that it was time for the last draw of the cruise.

Occasionally, during those days, you could win drinks that way. Being the last draw, we were picturing something big, like a ticket for a new cruise. As written earlier, it was not my kind of trip and I don’t think I would repeat it, but free would have had a different desirability.

That was not the only time I won a lottery at the end of a trip, the other was coming back from a weekend in the Marche region.

Victorious in the singles cruise

For me, the highlight of the singles cruise was visiting Split; this is the entrance to the Old Town

With my feigned bravado I asserted that I would certainly win; the chick, and the others around me as well, barely smiled without giving any weight to that statement, but I insisted by assuring them that I meant it.

In cruises, as well as in international resorts, announcements are made in all languages, in that case first in English. Just as at the Oscars proclamation the famous formula is pronounced; did you introduce the scene, with the actor coming on stage moved and thanking his mother?

All of the nearly 3,000 sailors with strained ears heard:

And the winner is…..Fabio Viroli!

Arriving at the front desk to collect the prize, I thought I had confirmation of how substantial it was when they congratulated me but then gave me the package.

Me at home in front of the planisphere, I keep the first prize of the cruise lottery, a model of the ship
I still have that prize the model cruise ship
