The land of smurfs was the classic lesser-known stop to which I so aspired, however.
Arriving in Seville at night, we rented a car the next morning and left immediately to visit the smaller places before devoting ourselves to the major cities.
This part of Spain in particular is really nice to do by car because of the beautiful and varied landscapes.
Gibraltar

We also went to Gibraltar, which many people snub, whereas I really cared about it because of its historical importance over time. I also liked the idea of going to English territory while being in Spain.

I did not regret it at all, and it was already worth it for the crosswalk of the small airport, with red lights for pedestrians in case of landing or taking off of airplanes; then the red booths and pubs, where of course we stopped.
We ascended the rock by elevator, together with a little monkey of the kind that is stationary there: to me this made me laugh, even more so thinking that instead the monkey must have thought our astonishment absurd, he must have thought: Why shouldn’t I take the elevator? I’m monkey, not dumb .

I pueblos blancos: Ronda and the land of smurfs
I loved the Pueblos blancos, among which Ronda excels.

But I also tended to go to Juzcar, the only one of the hilltop villages in the area to have blue houses instead of white. It is so because it was used as a location to film the movie of the smurfs, when there were not yet the technologies of now that allow all the scenery to be recreated virtually. A referendum was held to ask if the residents wanted their houses back to the original white. They decided to remain blue in order to stand out from the other pueblos blancos, thus remaining the country of the smurfs.
