I begin to frame fellow travelers

It only took me a few hours to begin to frame my fellow travelers. There were some very nice people, but I would not find the woman of my life. Plus I was going to have to be very patient, as there were a lot of selfies among my fellow travelers!

To me, a selfie taker is one who wastes a lot of time of his life in the search for the perfect selfie. There are real selfie enthusiasts and I find them insufferable!

To selfies I prefer dumb photos

Especially among the women, there were those who were very careful about the right framing and then for each of the many photos, then a timely evaluation and obvious repurposing by varying pose, light, etc… In particular there was all the reasoning about when and how to publish each shot, always in order to get more likes.

Everyone is free to do what he or she wants in life, of course; but if you are in a group, the above implies a slowness of movement that is unnerving to me.

Visit to Lake Atitlan and its surroundings

A visit to Lake Atitlan is a spectacle because of its colors and the ever-present volcanoes that fill this part of the world. On its shores are small remote villages. So reachable only on foot or by the little boats that shuttle between places.

Chicken buses

Something really typical that we will find again and again during the trip are the colorful chicken buses, so called because they often happen to have as a seatmate the live chicken that has been bought or will be sold at the market. These are the former American school buses, which in Central and South America are made immortal and cheerful by the remade engine and the imagination in painting them.
