If someone had asked my fellow travelers what to do in Cuzco, they would have given him a very different answer than I did. My trip to Guatemala, Honduras and Belize was also in a group and I had the same impatience at the end. I think it is clear that the group is not for me. However in going around on my own in Cuzco I hit bingo and found myself a casual bystander to an overly nice event.

The markets that passion
For a couple a couple of days I remained somewhat limited, and so at Titicaca but also the next day, I happened to stop at a few bars rather than walking when going somewhere. I certainly did not get as excited as my fellow travelers about all, I say all and I emphasize all the markets and the very numerous stalls we encountered everywhere. The products, certainly beautiful, were absolutely the same, with some slight variations.

I am not a big fan of souvenirs or buying things in general. At home they are used to the fact that I hardly ever bring anything (except something to the granddaughters), but even more bored with doing and seeing the same things. My companions wanted to stop, carefully monitoring, as many as 4/5 times a day; for in addition to the official markets, there were stalls at every possible tourist stop or crossing point.

What to do in Cuzco, the most beautiful city in Peru
In Cuzco, the distance between me and my companions on the last day of the trip was emblematic. It is a city with a lot of history and definitely worth exploring. We had half a day free. The others obviously went for yet another market while I headed to the convent of San Domingo: beautiful colonial structure built on the remains of the most important Inca temple.
I was particularly lucky because I happened to be at a masquerade event, but with the extras being little children: spectacular! So much more than stalls!

The city is 3300 meters above sea level, so lower than where we had been in the previous days. This certainly favored my recovery.
It is the base for getting to the most iconic places in the country. But it is also the ancient capital of the Incas and has many interesting things, starting, from the Cathedral to Plaza de Armas and the aforementioned convent . So to the question what to do in Cuzco I would definitely not say go to the market!
A song we listened to many times is El Condor Pasa; I like Simon & Garfunkel‘s version.
Ollantaytambo and Moray
The two archaeological sites nearby are Ollantaytambo and Moray.
In the first we see the remains of a pre-Inca city, which still retains part of its buildings. The second consists of some circular terraces of uncertain origin, the most fascinating of the hypotheses being that they would have been a laboratory for the adaptation of different agricultural species cultivated at different altitudes.
