What to do in Ljubljana

Answering what to do in Ljubljana is quick: the city is small, though pretty. The capital of Slovenia is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, or if like me in the spring of 2012 I was short on time and you live in the northeast. One of the most unique things is the triple bridge.

Despite being called the city of dragons, we saw many of them in souvenir stores as a symbol of the city, but none real, and I must admit that the featured photo is created with artificial intelligence.

Between 2010 and 2012, thanks to Facebook, now in my 40s, I happened to reconnect with friends I had met in my teens and had dated until my college days. It may be that marriages, various affairs, perhaps children or simply life, change people; but also that by being for days inside with someone, one discovers even unimaginable details or deeper aspects of the other.

The unseen companion

I went in a car and paired with a friend; whom I thought I knew extraordinarily well, and instead I discovered in a way unseen and unexpected sides of him.

So many, I would say the absolute majority of people, for travel or vacation, prioritize companionship over destination. For a long time I did too, whereas now I think differently. Certainly when you spend full days with someone it is different than going for a beer in the evening. The dynamics are different and you may find that you are not as compatible as you thought. Even some very long-standing friendships can be ruined on vacation, this obviously applies to couples as well.

In our three days between traveling and visiting Ljubljana, we spent a lot of quiet time in bars and restaurants, so there was a lot of talking. I remember being amazed at some of the thoughts and experiences recounted so much that I had doubts whether I really knew that person. After a few months, there were situations that confirmed how valid my doubts were.

Travel is perhaps the best way to get to know someone better, and discover/understand each other better; of course this can also be a risk.
