Welcome in Jordan is the greeting I received very often on the street, from complete strangers in Jordan. It is the emblematic phrase of one of the friendliest people I have ever dealt with, but as are all Middle Easterners.

It was a solo trip made in August 2014, lasted 8 days and I moved by public transportation, first to Jordan; finally in the last 2 days I visited Tel Aviv in Israel.

The Welcome in Jordan itinerary

My stages were:

  • Amman
  • Jerash
  • Madaba, Mount Nebo and the Jordan River
  • The Dead Sea
  • Petra
  • The Wadi Rum Desert
  • Aqaba
  • Tel Aviv (in Israel)

To Jerash I went by a very fun local bus from Amman. Then , again from the Jordanian capital, I took a tour that in a day took me to historic Bible sites and to the Dead Sea. Then by bus I arrived in Petra and then from there to Aqaba where I took a tour to tour and stay overnight in the desert.

Back in Aqaba I crossed the border to Israel and from there, cabs and other public transportation to get to Tel Aviv.

In spite of its neighbors, Jordan is at peace with other nations and is also stable internally.

Jordan is undoubtedly a quiet and safe destination. But even though it is a small country, it is above all full of wonderful and must-see places.

The last days in Tel Aviv were also interesting, but I saw the best of Israel on another occasion.
